Bree Rizzo Eyes Powercor Women’s Gift Victory in Stawell

Date: 20th March 2025

Australian sprint star Bree Rizzo returns to the 2025 Powercor Women’s Gift, determined to etch her name on the winners list this Easter long weekend in Stawell.

Fresh off an all-conditions personal best of 11.09 seconds at the 2025 Perth Track Classic – recording the fastest time by an Australian woman in all conditions since 2000 and the fifth fastest in history – the 29-year-old is in peak condition and ready to take on a strong field.

“I’m thrilled to have had such a strong start to the season. Coming into Perth, I knew I was in shape to aim for an 11.1 legal, so I was stoked with that result despite the wind. It really gave me the confidence in knowing that my legs can move that fast, so now I just need to make it happen in legal conditions,” Rizzo said.

Rizzo’s best performance in Stawell came in 2019, when she placed third in the Women’s Gift final, clocking 13.882 seconds off a 4-metre handicap.

“Stawell Gift is special to me and my family. I have great memories competing here, and meeting my husband, Matt Rizzo, here in 2019 (a former Gift winner). I love the chase, so the event always brings out the best in me, and hopefully, I’ll be able to stamp my name as a winner at Stawell – maybe my new surname will bring me some luck,” she said.

In 2025 the carnival naming rights partner, Powercor, has extended their partnership to include the naming rights of the Powercor Women’s Gift, which features equal prize money with the Powercor Stawell Gift.

“Bree has been a consistent supporter of the Powercor Stawell Gift and the Australian domestic scene. We’re thrilled to have Bree back again this year and she’d be a worthy winner of the $40,000 prize money for the women’s gift winner,”said Powercor Stawell Gift Chair, Murray Emerson.

The 2025 Powercor Stawell Gift takes place from April 19 to April 21, with the feature finals, including the Powercor Women’s Gift, on Easter Monday. Tickets are now on sale at Ticketek, with prices starting at just $18. Children aged 4-12 gaining free entry on Easter Sunday. In what will be a huge year for the event attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to avoid the queues.
