Stawell Gift Event Management (SGEM) is seeking passionate and skilled individuals to join its Board as Independent Directors.

The Stawell Gift is one of Australia’s most recognised sporting events, with a proud history dating back to 1878. As we look to the future, we are seeking directors who can bring fresh perspectives, contemporary expertise and strategic thinking to support the ongoing evolution of this iconic event.

Skills We Are Seeking

As part of our Board renewal and capability development strategy, we are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

Priority Focus: Digital Transformation & Innovation

  • Digital strategy and governance
  • Data analytics and business intelligence
  • Customer and fan engagement platforms
  • Cybersecurity and information security
  • AI and emerging technologies
  • Digital marketing and audience growth
  • Technology-enabled organisational improvement

We are also interested in applicants with experience in:

  • Finance, accounting, audit and risk
  • Legal and regulatory compliance
  • Marketing and communications
  • Sponsorship and commercial partnerships
  • Strategy and organisational transformation
  • Tourism, events and visitor economy
  • Government relations and advocacy

Previous board experience is welcomed but not essential.

Board Commitment

The Board meets monthly, either in person or via videoconference. Directors are expected to attend the Easter Carnival and actively participate in Board discussions and governance activities. The estimated annual commitment is approximately 8-12 days per year, plus key event attendance.

  • Nominations Committee recommendation to Board: 21 October 2026
