History and Innovation to Combine for Central Park Scoreboards

Date: 21st November 2024

Central Park’s historic scoreboard will remain a key landmark in Stawell, with the Central Park Development Partnership announcing its plans for a new digital scoreboard to be built adjacent to the Stawell Athletic Club Hall of Fame.

The existing scoreboard was erected in 1926 and is synonymous with the iconic Powercor Stawell Gift carnival, which takes place at Central Park each Easter. Initial exploration of a potential upgrade to the existing scoreboard with an electronic scoreboard on the same site was discontinued following consultation with community and Heritage Victoria.

The CPDP, which comprises representation from two key user groups of Central Park, the Stawell Football Netball Club and the Stawell Athletic Club, have confirmed plans for the development of a 5.7 metre wide by 3.8m high digital scoreboard to be erected at the Northern end of the Stawell Athletic Club committee rooms. The digital scoreboard will complement the existing historic scoreboard with both scoreboards being used for key events at Central Park.

“We are committed to the heritage of events like the Powercor Stawell Gift, where the existing scoreboard will continue to play an important role in the pageantry and traditions of the event,” said Chair of the CPDP, Blair Hart.

“The new complementary digital scoreboard will also be utilized for the Powercor Stawell Gift and service the needs of the Stawell Football Netball Club during their football season. The digital screen will be a valuable community asset year-round, lending itself to supporting educational, social, and fundraising activities by other local community organisations and Northern Grampians Shire Council.

CDCP has sought tenders and quotes from three suppliers for the new digital scoreboard, with the preferred option supplied by SOLID Display Systems. The development cost is to be partially funded by a major raffle conducted by the CDCP committee during the 2024 football season and across Easter 2025.

The CDCP is calling upon the greater Northern Grampians community, Victorian football and athletics communities to get behind the raffle. Ticket holders will have the chance to win incredible prizes including the first prize of a Toyota Hilux 4X4 SR5 valued at $72,000, second prize of a $3,500 Halls Gap holiday voucher package, and third prize of a $2,000 BP Fuel voucher.

The raffle is operated under Victorian Raffle Permit 10124/24. Just 2,000 tickets are available at $100 each and can be purchased at www.raffletix.com.au/sacscoreboardraffle. The Draw will take place at 2.30pm AEST on Monday, 21 April 2025 at Central Park Stawell, 6 Main Street, Stawell VIC 3380, prior to the running of the finals of the Powercor Stawell Gift.
