2000 Strickland Family Women’s Gift Champion, Tamsyn Lewis-Manou and 1993 Powercor Stawell Gift winner, Jason Richardson will celebrate their history with the iconic Easter carnival in their role as Official Ambassadors for the Powercor Stawell Gift.
Richardson, well known for his hosting roles for the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and Horse Racing on Seven is celebrating thirty years since his win in the 120m Open Handicap in 1993, where he won off a handicap of 7.5m. Richardson holds a unique place in Gift folklore having won the ‘novice’ 100m final in 1992, the Stawell Gift final in 1993 and then the Backmarkers invitational 120m in 1994. He is one of only two athletes to have won these races in consecutive years.
“The Powercor Stawell Gift is an icon of Australian sport and I am proud to be an official ambassador for this year’s Carnival. The Gift keeps evolving year on year and there are exciting new additions again this year with all new hospitality offerings, incredible family day activities and some of Australia’s very best athletes on show.”
“Like every Easter I’ll be making the pilgrimage to Stawell where no doubt another part of Australian sporting history will be created at Central Park. I encourage athletics fans, sports fans and locals alike to get their tickets and be part of one of Australia’s most incredible sporting events.”
Lewis-Manou, an eighteen-time national champion, made her Central Park debut in 1994 recording seventeen appearances at Stawell, most notably winning the 120m Women’s Gift in 2000 and finishing second again in 2009. The three-time Olympian is a mother of two and Official Ambassador for the Powercor Stawell Gift Family Day on Easter Sunday..
“There really is something for everyone at this year’s Family Day, and you don’t have to be an athletics fan to have an awesome day at the Gift,’ said Lewis-Manou.
“While I know my kids are excited for the Easter Egg Hunt, where there’s more than 7,000 easter eggs to find, there’s also an 18ft giant inflatable slide, face painting for the little ones, a native Australian animal petting zoo with everything from the cute and cuddly to the slippery and snappy, a Powercor Liney Life activation, kids mini-athletics clinic with Olympian Matt Beckenham and the Kelly Sports Kids Clinic. I’m tired just thinking about all of the fun they are going to have!
“Best of all, entry to Central Park is free for children 12 and under on Easter Sunday and all activities and rides are free for all attendees.”
Richardson and Lewis-Manou will be part of the on-air broadcast team for the live television coverage of the Easter Monday finals on Seven and will share their favourite stories of the carnival on the Powercor Stawell Gift social channels. Tickets for the 2023 Powercor Stawell Gift Carnival (April 8-10, 2023) are on-sale now at Ticketek.
