Award winning vineyard Grampian’s Estate has agreed to further their longstanding relationship with the Stawell Athletic Club by extending their sponsorship of the Stawell Easter Gift for a further 2 years.
Owners Tom and Sarah Guthrie first partnered with the Stawell Gift in 2010, just months after they purchased Garden Gully vineyard and re-branded the business to Grampian’s Estate. The new agreement includes the 2017 and 2018 Gift will see the partnership extend to nine years.
“We are delighted to announce the extension of their sponsorship with the Stawell Gift for another two years. Grampians Estate has enjoyed a wonderful partnership with this iconic local event for the past seven years,” Mr Guthrie said.
Perhaps in a sign of the buoyant times back in the 19th century, the Salinger family first planted grapes at the Great Western vineyard in 1878, the same year that W.J Millard won the inaugural Stawell Gift.
The Salinger family operated the vineyard and winery from 1878 until 1945 when it was purchased by Seppelt. The Salinger label is still used today by Seppelt with one of their sparkling wines.
President of the Stawell Athletic Club, Mr Neil said he was delighted to welcome back Grampian’s Estate as a long-time supporter of the event.
“Grampian’s Estate are a significant organisation in our region and their continued support is tremendous to the ongoing success of our historic Stawell Gift,” he said.
With the 2017 Stawell Gift to run once again over the Easter period from April 15-17, Mr Guthrie acknowledged that events such as the gift are paramount to the local economy.
“Major regional events like the Stawell Gift are vital to the prosperity of the region, especially to tourism, which is also so important to wineries such as ours. The Stawell Gift began in 1878, the same year the Salinger family planted Grampians Estate’s St Ethel’s Vineyard at Great Western, which is a neat coincidence” he added.
Having established an iconic reputation for its cool-climate peppery shiraz, Grampian’s Estate sits alongside many of the great names of the Grampian’s wine region.
“As a James Halliday 5 red star winery, Grampians Estate strives to produce the very best from our grapes and wine making, just like the competitors at the Stawell Gift,” Mr Guthrie added.
The Grampians Estate Cellar Door continues to attract increasing numbers of visitors and a variety of awards. Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine has awarded the Grampians Estate Cellar Door the ‘Star Cellar Door’ and ‘Cellar Door with Best Food’ for the Grampians / Henty Region. At last year’s Grampians Pyrenees Business Awards, Grampians Estate won Best Agribusiness and Suellen Blackie was awarded Best Employee.
Such a dedicated partner of the Stawell Gift, Grampian’s Estate even has a number of products named after the historic race, including the ‘Stawell Gift Shiraz’. The 2015 Stawell Gift Shiraz is 100% Grampians fruit showing raspberries and blackberries with some pleasant spice and pepper on the palate.
