Peter Bol Returns to Stawell with Unfinished Business

Date: 3rd April 2025

Peter Bol is back. After clocking a slick 1:44.86 at the Sydney Track Classic, he’s returning to Stawell for the 1000m Invitational Handicap. Last year’s epic finish in torrential rain is still fresh in everyone’s minds, and this Easter long weekend, Bol’s got one thing on his mind: unfinished business.

Bol’s 2024 run in the 1000m Invitational was one for the history books. Starting off scratch on a rain-soaked Central Park track, he powered through the field, electrifying the crowd with his trademark finish. In one of the closest finishes the  carnival has ever seen, Bol was narrowly edged out by Riley Bryce, with just 0.020 seconds separating them at the line.

Relentless rain from a once in a generation downpour at Stawell added to the folklore of Bol’s remarkable race, where he finished in a time of 2:24.782.

“It was certainly one of the more memorable races of my season,’ said Bol.

“I loved the challenge from scratch last year, and the conditions were unforgettable. Despite the rain, the crowds were still enormous and so loud. They were brilliant to race in front of.’

Now, with redemption on his mind those crowds will again be eager to witness Bol’s second coming at Stawell.

“Having Peter race in 2024 was enormous for the event,” said SGEM Chair Murray Emerson.

“We know the event made a great impression on Peter. He said he would be back and he’s been true to his word. We can’t wait to see how he goes with the experience of last year under his belt.”

In addition to his on-track exploits, Bol has been prominent in inspiring younger generations, his social content and outgoing personality making his appearance a popular one among young and old fans alike.

“I love the hype and support, 2024 was incredible. Having so many kids run laps with me across the weekend made it a great atmosphere, which is part of the reason I’m returning,’ said Bol.”

The Powercor Stawell Gift carnival will take place from April 19 to 21, with the 1000m Invitational Handicap taking place at 1.25pm on Easter Monday. Bol will headline a deep field of elite middle-distance athletes along with the Winner of the Herb Hedemann Invitational participating in the 1000m Invitational. Tickets are available via Ticketek and the race will be broadcast live and free on Channel 7 on Easter Monday.
