Lachlan Kennedy Primed for Powercor Stawell Gift Debut

Date: 12th March 2025

Fresh off a blistering 10.03 at the Perth Track Classic, Lachlan Kennedy is set to light up the track at the Powercor Stawell Gift this Easter Long Weekend. The 21-year-old Queenslander will be a headliner among a stellar field at the iconic event.

The Queenslander equalled Matt Shirvington’s 10.03 in a scintillating run in Perth, which now sees Kennedy as the equal third fastest Australian of all time over 100 metres. He also holds the Oceanian record in the 4x100m relay and 60m and was part of Australia’s record-breaking 38.12 relay team at the Paris Olympics.

Making his inaugural appearance at Stawell, Kennedy is eager to embrace the unique challenge of the historical event.

“Competing at Stawell has always been a goal of mine. The event’s rich history and the opportunity to compete for a big prize purse is exciting. I’m running well and give myself every chance for a win in Stawell,” Kennedy remarked.

Kennedy’s transition from rugby to athletics has been nothing short of remarkable, capturing the attention of both critics and fans. The anticipated face-off between Kennedy and rising star Gout Gout is set to be a key highlight, with athletics and sports fans keen to witness this thrilling matchup.

“Australian athletics is thriving with a new generation of world-class sprinters,” said Powercor Stawell Gift Chair, Murray Emerson. “Lachlan Kennedy adds to an exciting lineup, and we expect a fantastic turnout this Easter weekend.”

Established in 1878, the Powercor Stawell Gift stands as Australia’s most renowned professional footrace.
